The recent announcement of a Joint Cooperation Agreement between Resecurity, a U.S.-based cybersecurity firm, and AfricaCERT, the leading pan-African organization for computer emergency response teams, marks a major step forward in protecting this digital future.
This strategic partnership is more than a simple business agreement; it’s a commitment to building a more resilient, intelligence-led cybersecurity ecosystem across Africa.
The Power of Shared Intelligence
The cornerstone of this partnership is the sharing of advanced threat intelligence. Resecurity is providing AfricaCERT with direct access to its powerful Context and Risk platforms. These tools are designed to do more than just identify threats—they provide the kind of real-time, actionable intelligence that is crucial for a proactive defense strategy.
As Kodzo Gadzekpo Adomey, Operations Manager at AfricaCERT, rightly stated, the objective is to “monitor, in real time, data related to information leaks and threats specifically targeting African countries.” This is a game-changer. By leveraging Resecurity’s platforms, which gather data from the dark web, malware telemetry, and other deep sources, AfricaCERT can get an early warning of attacks, identify malicious activity, and coordinate a regional response before a major incident occurs.
This moves the continent from a reactive stance, where teams respond after an attack has caused damage, to a proactive one, where they can prevent it from happening in the first place.
The agreement is built on a foundation of long-term cooperation and capacity building, including:
- Training and Workshops: Developing a skilled workforce is essential for sustained cyber resilience. Joint training and workshops will equip African professionals with the skills needed to use the CTI platforms effectively and respond to modern threats.
- Information Sharing: The collaboration will facilitate the sharing of insights on cybercrime trends, advanced persistent threats (APTs), and digital fraud, creating a unified knowledge base to strengthen regional defenses.
- Collaborative Response: In an age of transnational threats, no single country can stand alone. This agreement paves the way for a coordinated, cross-border response to major incidents.
A Commitment to Digital Trust
This partnership is a testament to the shared understanding that a strong digital economy cannot exist without digital trust. For Africa’s burgeoning financial systems, critical infrastructure, and citizen data, a reliable and secure digital environment is non-negotiable.
Shawn Loveland, COO of Resecurity, highlighted this shared mission, noting that the partnership “advances digital trust in the African region to support the continent’s digitization.”
The agreement between Resecurity and AfricaCERT is a significant milestone. It’s a clear signal that Africa is not just a consumer of technology, but an active player in shaping its own secure digital system.
