Operating the historic Mwerasandu tin mine in Uganda, H5 Resources leverages advanced GPT models, local edge agents, and ChatGPT Work to optimize mineral production and pioneer resilient, AI-driven mining infrastructure.
Uganda-based tin producer H5 Resources, renowned for rebuilding the historic Mwerasandu mine in Ntungamo District through modern engineering and applied AI, has been officially named an OpenAI Select Partner within the global OpenAI Partner Network.
The OpenAI Partner Network connects organizations possessing deep industry expertise and delivery capabilities with resources, enablement, and support to accelerate the deployment of OpenAI frontier models and products. As a Select Partner, H5 Resources will continue scaling AI solutions across its own mining operations while optimizing performance using GPT-5.6 and ChatGPT Work.
The intersection of technology and heavy industry forms the core of H5 Resources’ mission. Tin is a foundational component of modern computing, serving as a primary material for solder used across servers and data-center hardware while holding designation as a U.S. critical mineral. H5 Resources uniquely bridges both worlds: producing responsibly sourced tin under the ICGLR framework while deploying proprietary agentic AI solutions on-site.
Because off-the-shelf software rarely meets heavy industrial needs, the company built its own agentic AI framework from the ground up, utilizing Mwerasandu as a real-world proving ground:
- Industrial Edge Agents: Deployed since February 2026, edge agents support the mine’s IoT layer, processing approximately 1,300 sensor snapshots daily with local caching to withstand connectivity interruptions.
- Operational Intelligence: Systems handle complex document analysis, employee knowledge sharing, and governed multi-model workflows.
- Advanced Memory Architecture: The company is developing a novel memory layer inspired by human cognitive systems to provide AI models with structured, durable recall across long-running operational datasets.
“We are miners, and mining will always be our focus,” said Igor Silberud, CEO and Co-Founder of H5 Resources. “Running a modern mine meant building agentic AI solutions across our operations because nothing suitable existed off the shelf for our industry. Working with OpenAI, we can make these systems better and determine which deserve a life of their own as standalone products.”
As global artificial intelligence infrastructure accelerates demand for responsibly sourced critical minerals, H5 Resources continues to invest in technical enablement and operational discipline. By combining century-old resource extraction with cutting-edge agentic workflows, the company is redefining what it means to build a modern, technology-driven mining operation in Africa.
