A seasoned veteran of the Africa Finance Corporation, Fagbule steps into the role to accelerate infrastructure development across East and Central Africa.
The Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) has announced the appointment of Fola Fagbule as the Director and Head of its Nairobi Regional Office. This strategic appointment marks a pivotal moment in the AFC’s efforts to deepen its footprint and catalyse economic transformation throughout East and Central Africa.
Fola Fagbule is no stranger to the AFC’s mission. Since joining the firm as an Associate in 2009, he has been a cornerstone of the organization’s growth. Most recently, as the leader of financial advisory services since 2017, Fagbule oversaw the structuring and execution of transactions exceeding US$12 billion. His portfolio includes some of the most transformative infrastructure, energy, and industrial projects on the continent.
With extensive experience spanning telecommunications, transport, mining, and power, Fagbule brings a holistic view of the investment landscape. Beyond finance, his deep intellectual engagement with African history and development, evidenced by his co-authorship of Formation: The Making of Nigeria from Jihad to Amalgamation, provides him with a unique perspective on the economic forces shaping the continent’s future.
In his new capacity, Fagbule will spearhead the AFC’s efforts to originate investment opportunities and foster strategic partnerships with governments, sovereign wealth funds, and institutional investors. His leadership comes at a critical juncture as the AFC scales up its regional operations, following key initiatives like the investment in the Dhamana Guarantee Company and the proposed expansion of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
“East and Central Africa represent some of the most compelling opportunities for economic transformation,” says Samaila Zubairu, President and CEO of the AFC. “Fola’s experience, judgment, and deep understanding of our mission make him exceptionally well-positioned to lead our regional platform.”
Fagbule expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge, stating, “I am excited to build on our strong foundations in the region—working alongside colleagues and partners to unlock major investments and deliver lasting economic impact for Africa.”
