Delivered through channel partner Naonis, Gruppo AB implements Macrium’s lightweight, automated recovery solution to protect critical energy and infrastructure systems where rapid restoration is non-negotiable.
Macrium Software has announced that Gruppo AB has selected Macrium as its standard backup and recovery solution across more than 2,000 systems worldwide. Delivered in collaboration with Macrium channel partner Naonis, the standardization ensures dependable data protection and rapid disaster recovery across industrial environments where operational continuity is critical.
Gruppo AB designs, builds, and maintains cogeneration, biogas, biomethane, and emissions-treatment plants globally. Many of the Windows-based systems powering these operations run in air-gapped environments without internet connectivity, safeguarding infrastructure that underpins sensitive sectors like food cold chains and hospitals. In these environments, an unexpected outage or network failure carries major repercussions for public health and service delivery.
Macrium was chosen for its capability to streamline recovery while establishing consistent, repeatable deployments across global installations. Using a single pre-built image, Gruppo AB engineers can standardize system setups worldwide, sharply cutting down deployment time across thousands of nodes.
Key technical advantages driving the adoption include:
- Media-Free Deployment: The lightweight architecture allows image deployment without requiring physical USB media or external hardware.
- Automated Protection: Routine nightly backups run seamlessly to ensure systems can be restored on demand.
- Remote Simplicity: Because the tool requires no specialist backup expertise, operators can execute recoveries under pressure with remote guidance over a phone call.
“Critical infrastructure depends on systems being available when people need them most,” said Dave Joyce, CEO of Macrium Software. “Gruppo AB supports environments where outages can quickly have wider operational consequences, so recovery has to be dependable, repeatable, and straightforward to execute under pressure. The fact they’ve trusted Macrium to standardize recovery across more than 2,000 systems worldwide speaks volumes.”
For engineers managing complex SCADA and HMI environments, the simplicity of the solution has proven invaluable during high-stress crises.
“Our plants serve critical environments like cold chains and hospitals, and Macrium is on every one of those systems,” explained Danielle Placidi, SCADA and Software HMI Coordinator at Gruppo AB. “When recovery needs to work in a crisis, that reliability and simplicity absolutely make the difference. It’s so straightforward, our clients can do it over a phone call.”
Federico Schinetti, SCADA and SW HMI Specialist at Gruppo AB, added: “I would definitely recommend Macrium to any engineer because it’s easy to use and reliable. It saved me in critical situations and it saved clients from losing control of their plant.”
With Macrium successfully deployed across its global install base, Gruppo AB joins a rapidly expanding roster of enterprises leveraging robust backup strategies to protect vital industrial and energy assets against downtime.
